In order to ensure nutritional health, the govt has agreed to increase fortified rice distribution and begin providing it throu
gh the Integrated Child Development Services and Mid-Day Meal program in April, according to a senior food ministry official. Presently, fortified rice is distributed through ration shops, also known as the public distribution system (PDS), in one district per state in six of the 15 states that have been designated for a three-month pilot scheme in 2019-20.
The scheme's aim was to tackle anemia and micronutrient deficiencies in the region. Rice is a staple food for about 65 percent of India's population. Rice fortification is a low-cost, complementary strategy for rising vitamin and mineral content in diets, as well as a move toward nutritional protection and combating anemia and malnutrition in the nation.
